29th September, the date stands very important to me and for a few around me (Its free food day for them), yes my Birthday. So the usual office, lunch, followed by dinner with friends. But before leaving for the birthday dinner, a certain instruction from mother which said that ‘Come home before 12, tommrow is the verdict’. So as expected the dinner was less about me and more about what’s going to happen tomorrow (and why am I working, when others are having an off). Well, for once I followed the instructions and was home before the instructed time.
So wanting to know the in and out of the current happening I switch on and sit glued in front of TV set to understand what will happen tomorrow? So I will be honest and say what I expected to see:
A certain journalist sitting in the swanky studio alongside 4-6 people that would represent the two parties involved in the case, someone from the government, a lawyer and maybe a not so required socialite discussing and putting forward as to what will it be tomorrow. And also a lot of SMS from people, which would show the percentage of who is saying what?
Well, to my surprise there was nothing like this going on (I even switched to some other channels, even India TV was busy bashing up Kalmadi) so with a surprised thought I put myself off and hope for a better day tomorrow.
Early morning one more surprise, when I find the roads the same as every day. Surprised to see people go to work on a day which is spoken to be one of the most feared days in the history of the country.
I reach office and find that it’s half day! And many of us in the office are discussing what would it be and if things go wrong, how bad it can get for the country.
Leave office and come back home and wait for 3:30pm when the country would hear a judgment that it has been waiting for the past 60 years.
So, around 4:45pm we see a bunch of lawyers coming out with a ‘V’ (victory) sign and marching towards the media. They rush and address the media and start saying something which is not clear (Thanks to twitter, I could figure what they were saying).
So after a lot of speculations at around 6pm the scene was clear that it’s going to be divided by 1/3rd amongst the various parties involved in the case. So, finally we have the VERDICT out!!
So far, so good. But has this 'new' India really moved on from the early 90s as it is being repeatedly suggested on the news channels?
Well it seemed so. With not even one single violence reported from any corner of the country, it looked like we are seeing an India that is moving on!! We could see a matured India, and not the impulse India which would react instantly to such things.
In 1992, economy was growing at 2.2 per cent; today it is around the 9 per cent mark. In 1992, the sensex was around 2,000 then, now it has crossed the 20,000 mark.
From 70 lakh cars on India's roads then, we now have more than 1.8 crore vehicles. From 4 lakh computers then, we now have over 4 crore computers. India today has more than 580 million mobile subscribers in rural and urban parts of the country.
The electronic media revolution is also one of the many changes that have taken place in the last decade, ensuring that September 30, 2010, was never going to be a repeat of what we witnessed on 6th December 1992.
I feel the Media was very responsible in their act of keeping the country first and rest everything else going in the back burner.
Today, there are more than 120 news channels as compared to a DD in the 90’s. The nature of the medium did act as a watchdog when the Ayodhya judgment was delivered, thereby ensuring that there was nothing that India had to worry about.
Also, a rare scene being witnessed of all the political parties talking the same languages, something that none of us ever get to see.
I liked what Rahul Gandhi said; when he was asked about the ayodhya land issue, where he says that there better things our country needs to look into like Infrastructure, Education etc and such issues should not be highlighted much.
A few days after the Ayodhya verdict, Rajnikanth was in news for his new release.A few days later the fantastic CWG opening ceremony and the host nation’s performance and also the Ind-Aus Test Series and a lot coming which will put this somewhere in what was once just a mere news !
All this could be possible, just because of the changing India.
Good Job, India !!

Nice one to take off with sensible content !!
