2011, has already seen the top two metros under the attack, once again. Mumbai and Delhi.
India being a victim of terrorism since 1993 has always ‘moved on’ from one attack to the other. The question that all of us ask is not when the last blast took place but probably when the next will one will occur? With people losing count of the number attacks I guess these are signs of we all turning immune to it. 2008 wasn’t only the year in which I graduated but probably the year which saw terror strike in cities like Bangalore, Delhi, Ahmedabad, Guwahtai and probably the worst one that struck Mumbai in the month of November. I remember a massive co-ordinated so called ‘rally’ was organized outside The Taj on the 3rd December 2008 to protest against the government and call the politicians all possible names! I was one of them present there and thought that this rally would have some serious outcome. Silly me!
Cut to 2011. I am sure when the news channels rewind for the top news and the news maker of the year there would be just one name. The Kan Lokpal Movement and Anna Hazare. Probably M.S.Dhoni not even in his wildest of dreams would have thought that there would have been someone who would trip him over to be the number 1 in spite of winning the world cup for a cricket frenzy nation after 28 years!
I wasn’t around when India got Independence so I wouldn’t know how things were at that time. But many who where there at the time called this movement as the ‘Azadi ki doosri jung’. People took streets, again. Protest marches across countries. Social media was leveraged to the fullest. Things even moved to an extent that a B-school also had an early morning discussion on ‘Brand Anna’. I am sure many of the people who took the streets, tweeted, had statuses put up, etc weren’t even aware about what they are supporting. Probably being a part of the rally, or joining the ‘I support’ page on Facebook did sound cool.
We all need to realize that if Acts and bills could have changed India then we would have become probably the best on this earth.
Well in this entire run of things If I were to ask who is Irom Sharmila or Shehla Masood ? I am sure many of us would right now turn to google to get the answers.
Well there is nothing like I am against the movement or something. The point that I am trying to put forward is this. For me and I am sure for many of us there is nothing but living and enjoying our life with our loved ones. Do well in life and achieve whatever we dream of. We wouldn’t like to be called ‘one of those victims’ in ‘one of those blasts’.Yes for me being safe is the most important thing. Every time we hear about the blasts we run helter-skelter to know about the well being of of our near ones and once we get the assurance we all move on.
You call it the spirit or majboori that makes all of us move out on the very second day report to work.
Nothing but this clip from the movie ‘A Wednesday’ explains what I feel in today’s time.
so true said.....we are just a stupid common man..
ReplyDelete100 times if some one knock the door we only get it 1 time...A day will definately come when all the common man will wake up...!!! seriously an awesome blog...!!!!
In current times, everybody want to join the bandwagon.Especially the uneducated common man coming out to be super fickle minded. He will follow anything he relates to, he will follow the Anna rally and go out and offer bribes. We need customised to appeal to these masses.#Techtonic Shift required. Cheers!
